Marija studied biochemistry at the University of Belgrade and worked at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE) for her diploma and Master’s thesis. There, she conducted research focusing on the anti-cancer potential of biomolecules. Fascinated by the pharmacology and therapeutic potential of small molecules, Marija continued her professional career at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Vienna, where she worked on the discovery and/or pharmacological characterization of a wide array of small molecules, including cognitive enhancer compounds, anti-cancer drugs, and psychostimulant drugs. Her specialty is in vitro pharmacology.
Outside of work, you can spot Marija hiking, climbing, or immersing herself in a good Sci-Fi book. Being able to experience the magnificence of nature with family and friends gives her the greatest joy.
