Jan first got in touch with biomedical research during his Bachelor’s in Biochemistry at Ulm University. During an internship at Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery, Brisbane, he characterized an enzyme relevant for targeting worm infections. Having returned to Ulm, he studied biophysics and completed his Master’s by investigating if and how proteins of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 affect innate immunity. Being thrilled by immunofluorescence microscopy, virology, and immunology, he previously worked as a Research Technician at a company focussing on development of mRNA vaccines. There, he also got interested in the 3Rs and animal welfare in life sciences. He joined Dewpoint to learn more about biomolecular condensates and their potential for treatment of diseases.
If Jan is not in the lab, you might find him swimming, trying out some sort of art, or enjoying the beauty of nature.
