She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Lisbon, followed by a master’s degree in Bioinformatics at the Gulbenkian Institute in Oeiras, Portugal.
During her Ph.D., she studied condensate biology in the Hyman lab at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany. Using in vitro reconstitution assays, her team discovered the minimal components necessary to create a functional centrosome. The centrosome is a biomolecular condensate present in all animal cells that nucleates microtubules allowing the cells to divide.
Her current position at Dewpoint allows her to combine the best of condensate biology and data science and solve the greatest mystery of all – human disease.
